Aside from drafting DeShaun, the Texans are objectively horrible at personnel management (see DeAndre Hopkins trade, Ryan Findley trade) DeShaun Watson now has SEVEN sexual assault claims against him. And there may be FIVE MORE. Now what (in hindsight) could the Texans have done and when. Not signed Watson to the extension. He’d still be playing on his rookie deal approximately $25 million for 2021 and 2022. Traded Watson after the 2020 season. There were a number of suitors. Notably, the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers. Compensation was rumored to be as high as three first round picks plus a star player!!! Nothing different. At this point, DeShaun is bad for PR and he’s a pain to manage, but he’s still an amazing QB. He may be suspended but he may not. Perhaps the Texans regret signing him, but what they really regret is not trading him. His contract didn’t really affect his trade value, but to the extent it did, it was likely positive. Teams don’t want to go through the Kirk Cousins/Dak Prescott negotiation hassle. I mean, isn’t it obvious? Would you rather have 3 first round picks and Xavien Howard or a sexual predator QB who doesn’t want to be there and makes fans want to burn their Texans Tribal Spirit NFL Fan Hoodie in protest.
