Tannehill benefited greatly from an offense that was retooled to rely heavily on Derrick Henry. People love to ignore that every single game where Henry didn’t go off, we lost. Tannehill has one of the worst stat lines for any QB I have ever seen make it to the AFCCG too. He was decent but he only had to throw a few times a game and it was successful because all eyes were on Titans shirts.

Tannehill actually hasn’t been bad this season. He’s averaging eight yards per attempt even though Henry himself is arguably his most effective receiver. In fact, there was a post on one of the Titans’ blog sites this week that says they should use him and his Titans shirts out of the backfield more often. But running Derrick Henry into the ground is not the answer to the bigger problem. All in all, Robinson hasn’t met expectations, and the only reason their record has been as good as has the past few years is because the AFC South sucks. He hasn’t improved the team and after last year’s disappointment, he made them worse. The Titans have always been patient (see Fisher, Jeff), but eventually even they run out of patience.

If we’re including other Houston Oilers beside Munchak, the list grows quite a bit larger. Earl Campbell (HOF) was a wrecking ball masquerading as a running back. Ken Houston (HOF) is a candidate for greatest safety of all time. Charlie Joiner (HOF) wide receiver & John Henry Johnson (HOF) running back played for the Oilers, as did all time great tight end Dave Casper (HOF). Warren Moon, George Blanda, & Ken Stabler are all Hall of Fame quarterbacks. They had another quarterback named Dan Pastorini who is still #4 all time on the franchise passing yards list and a legend whose legacy lives on through Titans shirts sold at the stadium. He helmed the team when they were good enough to contend for AFC titles (they seemed to always run into the 70s Steel Curtain Pittsburgh Steelers but make no mistake, those Bum Phillips-coached Houston teams were good & went by the motto “Luv ya blue”).
