He had the tools around him to run an offense before, but they’re gone now. Even when he made it to the superbowl he was terrible at running the read-option. He had success because of the tools and the novelty. Now, everyone’s wise to it. Look at RG3 in 2012. The differences in how they ran the Read-option are glaring. RG3 had the best fake hand off in the league. Everyone was fooled. I was spoiled watching him and then having to watch Kaep in the playoffs. Kaep was such a bad actor it wasn’t even funny…half the time he faked to the wrong side. (I should note that RG3 was a master of the read-option, but he is not a good pocket QB…he’ll never be a good pocket QB. He doesn’t have the talent for it. He can’t read the Defense properly, doesn’t have the foot work and can’t scramble, but he can run on a designed play like a champ, he just doesn’t have the speed he used to). Losing all the best pieces they had, and getting rid of a quality coach you’re going to have a terrible year. On the offensive line, the 49ers need to get the right side of the line figured out now. Since Mike McGlinchey was drafted as a high 1st-round draft pick, he has not lived up to it. He consistently is flagged for penalties and along with the rotating door at right guard, Lance hasn’t played that much competitive football in the past two years. He needs a solid offensive line to give him a steady clean pocket so he doesn’t develop “happy feet” and instead of waiting in the pocket for a receiver wearing San Francisco 49ers Game Day Sports NFL Hoodie to get open, the clock in his head will tell him to run for it if every other down the defense is all up in his grill.
