I’m guessing they’re gonna roll with two QBs. The Saints and Taysom Hill just agreed to an extension of like ~$140M over ~4 yrs. What’s that? ~$35M/yr? That’s ~50% starting QB money. If Jameis can earn it in the next year or two he’ll probably see something similar. They’ve been doing this 2 QB thing for 1–2 years. It’s been working pretty damn well for them. Let’s not forget. When Sean Payton was suspended for a year, he coached his sons pop warner team. Of course they did well. At some point in the year they played a wing-t team. Almost no passing, almost all running. They got crushed. Once he knew he was gonna play them again in some kind of league playoff format he tried to figure it out and said he basically couldn’t. He contacted all his NFL d coordinator friends like ‘how do I stop this thing?’ All of them gave a bunch of ideas. These are NFL quality defensive coordinators. They couldn’t really figure it out. Of course they all had answers, and they all thought they were good answers. But so the teams met again for the championship game. And the wing-t team fucking killed them. So. Then he came back. Remember, this guy had designed his system as a throw first system. 5000 yds/yr every year etc. They immediately started incorporating the run more. First few years they went full time zone. But they seemed to ultimately not like that because they went away from it. I’m guessing because Brees was threatened more than they would like and they lost the ability to work in their favorite passing game concepts. So then they got Taysom Hill. A QB who could run and was already built like a RB. What it looks to me like what Payton had intended was to incorporate more classic wing-t concepts into their framework. So they started small. A light package. They looked at how effective it was. Different game situations (lots of goal line and short yardage). Then they developed it. Last year they went to it quite a bit after Brees’s injury. But let’s keep in mind. I find it a very dubious proposition that Payton wants to abandon the pass. And Taysom Hill played special teams, TE, QB, RB, etc. So to me a contract extension for a guy who sells so many New Orleans Saints 504 Strong 2025 Hoodie is more evidence of a split system of concepts and you’ve got this guy as a capable backup QB.
