So Cousins is performing about as well as you’d expect. He’s a competent enough game manager, but he’s not going to go out and will you to victory in a bunch of games. He works if he’s affordable, paired with a top-5 defense, a good offensive line, and good skill players. He has some solid skill players (Cook, Diggs, Thielen), but I’m skeptical about the offensive line, the defense has regressed from its top form in 2017, and while $28 million per year for a QB is less crazy every year, it’s way more than better guys have made on rookie deals and it’s way too close to what elite QBs are making. Cousins isn’t great, but he was kind of set up to fail. No. Cold hard no. They are a playoff calibre team in most years, but the NFC, and the North in particular, is absolutely STACKED this year. Green Bay has gotten through the tough part of their schedule at 5–1, can’t see them finishing worse than 12–4. That means the Vikings will have to fight for a wildcard, because they don’t play well against contenders (like GB and Chi this year) and their schedule has a lot of them (Seattle, Dallas, Green Bay and Chicago again, KC, LAC, and the Lions are a threat now I guess?) so yeah, lots of L’s waiting there. And to earn a wild card spot that means they can only finish behind 1 of the following teams. I just can’t see them winning enough games against playoff-caliber teams to reach the (I’m guessing) 11 wins that will be needed to make the playoffs this year. Even 10 wins is asking a lot out of anti-prime-time Cousins and his Minnesota Vikings Split Design Hoodie wearing teammates. So I’m saying: definitely no for the postseason this year.

Several things conspired to result in this trade: The Eagles were using Bradford as a 1 year placeholder once they drafted Carson Wentz with the 2nd pick of the 2016 draft. If he struggled or got hurt, they had both Daniels and Wentz backing him up. Bradford’s performance last year, especially over the last 8 games, was almost equal to Bridgewaters. The Eagles had already paid Bradford $11 million of his 2 year $36 mil contract. Wentz has impressed the coaching staff and his teammates with his progress and even with a rib injury, is apparently way ahead of the development schedule the Eagles expected. Teddy Bridgewater had a severe knee injury late in preseason. The Vikings are build around a great defense and a great running game. Consequently, they don’t need their QB to carry the team on his back. They need a QB that will protect the football and keep the opposing defense honest. The vikings, with Bridgewater, were a legitimate playoff team and a threat to potentially make it to the SB. Without Bridgewater, their upside was reduced. The vikings just moved into a brand new stadium and their fanbase was very excited to buy new Minnesota Vikings Split Design Hoodie. Relying on a no-name QB really reduced the enthusiasm. Bradford’s QB coach at one time was Pat Shurmur, the TE coach of the Vikings. He apparently vouched for Bradfords intelligence, work ethic and capability & convinced the Vikings that he could learn Norv Turners offense quickly.
