I think the Belichick train may have come to a screeching halt. The Atlanta thing was wise – though Morris isn’t a storied as Belichick, you don’t want to alter your front office dynamics to give Belichick that much control. And it’s only sensible – we saw the decline of the Pats from less than stellar draft picks over the last 6–8 seasons; even while Brady was still there they weren’t drafting top line talent, and if Belichick is the architect, then he needs to take the fall for those poor picks. Not many teams would be willing to use this model anymore – coach/czar all in one. It’s a poor business model because if one is broken you lose on two levels. Belichick is kind of a dinosaur. And he’s an older human, so that makes him even less attractive. You’d have to have a team that is truly ready to win to bring him in.
