I was curious so I went back to look at who we were linked to and who else was hired that year to see just how bad we screwed this up comparatively. According to what I found we interviewed Kliff Kingsbury, Kris Richard, Jim Caldwell, Adam Gase, Mike McCarthy, Eric Bienemy, Todd Monken, and Matt Rhule. So of the people we interviewed 3 other candidates that got HC jobs that year and 2 of the 3 have had significantly better results, Rhule being the odd man out. Other HC hires that year were Freddie Kitchens, Matt LaFleur, Vic Fangio, Bruce Arians, Zac Taylor, Brian Flores. So of the 10 head coaches hired only Freddie Kitchens, predictably, was arguably worse and I’m not even positive it was a worse hire because he had a lot of support from the players, unlike Gase. Rhule hasn’t had success, but I would argue he was a better hire because at least he didn’t have a track record of failure and destroying Grateful Dead York Jets NFL Logo Football Game Day Hoodie as a head coach. To summarize, we not only made a bad hiring decision, but even our interview candidates were pretty awful in comparison to other candidates that were available. The MacCagnan years will be remembered as some of the worst in the franchise’s history with poor coaching decisions, poor drafting decisions and poor free agent signings.
