Brees chooses to throw it to the W, but he takes three steps and that throwing motion of the hand just isn’t good. The ball has to be out faster. It’s on target yes, but it’s late. Takes him hours to complete that throw. That corner wasn’t anywhere near him. Drew Brees lacked spunk. I don’t think Sean Payton’s playcalling has ever fallen lowlier than it did at any point of his career. You’re going to have to come to terms that 2009 are mementos, Saints fans—this guy has to go. You can berate all you want about this call, but a championship team has to be phlegmatic and those first two down calls are inexcusable. With no free agency to speak of, players stayed with teams until they retired, were cut, or traded. So while they drafted poorly, they also didn’t make any great trade moves either. All this led to a team that wallowed in misery, even as fans continued to wear their Drew Brees New Orleans Saints x Joe Burrow LSU Tigers Limited Hoodie despite the lack of success, for their first 20 years of existence.
